Late comers

The note, written by Grandma Williams, on the second picture, pretty well explains the first. I forgot to measure the egg, but would guess it to be about 7 or 8" tall.

Once again and probably the last.

I hope that Glenn might know what this tool is, but it is fascinating to me. The threaded piece will screw through the tapered piece and both smaller blocks turn on the long screw. I assume that it predates Great-grandfather Libbey.  Screw to top is 9 1/2"; tapered part is 8 3/4" long.

Two tiny candlestick holders from Niort, France. I assume that means that Marie Katherine Rechard brought them. (Aunt Linnette had stayed with their family, as an exchange student and then Marie Katherine visited in Lynnfield.) 2 1/2" in diameter x 1" tall.

Black leather purse, 7 1/2" x 5 3/4". Would be great for dress-up. Very old.

Four glass punch cups. 2 5/8" in diameter x 2" tall.

Five juice glasses. 2 3/8" in diamter x 4" tall.

Rose cross stitch, done in yarn. Without fringe, 10 3/8" square; with finge, 12" square.

Three miscellaneous dishes, hand  painted. The china was made in Germany. The second picture shows the signature of the painter. Aunt Bessie and Great-grandma Libbey took china painting lessons, but I thought it was a few years before 1915 (just imagine, a century ago!). This may have been their teacher or a neighbor. 

Framed Scandinavian figures. The frame was made by Grandpa, I think. The top girl is labeled "Finland 2005" and the bottom one "Sweden 1986."

Large crock pot. I assume the "4" means four gallons. It is cracked, but together. Measures 12 3/4" in diameter by about 13" tall. Such crocks were standard farm storage containers.

Small low table. You may remember it as the table Grandma had her VCR and/or DVD players on, beneath her TV in the family room. 15 3/4" x 22 1/2" x 18" tall.

A much smaller crock. 8 1/2 in diameter x 8 3/4" tall.

Framed silhouette. No notes. It appears to be a paper cutting, maybe telling the story of Hansel and Gretel, which would suggest it came from one of their trips to Germany -- only a guess. 10 5/8" x 12 3/4".

Square table. Top is 19 3/4" square x 28 1/2" tall.

Wrought iron floor lamp. With the shade, 59" tall.

Commode. Grandma used it for linen storage and the drawer for her silverware. In days past, the lidded top would have held the basin and pitcher for washing hands, the drawer the needed linens, and the bottom door the chamber pot (toilet). It is old and came down through the Libbey/Libby family, but has been stripped and refinished by Grandma.

"Captains' Desk." This one was Uncle David's. He bought it after seeing a similar one that Grandma had. There are three drawers with "fancy" brass pulls down the right side. Time has taken a toll and the glued joints near the bottom are coming apart, but it is in excellent condition, otherwise.

Metal floor lamp. With shade, about 50' tall.

Replica bean pot. 3 1/2" in diameter x 3" tall.

Handmade ceramic pot. On the bottom it is signed "Joe." About 5 3/4" in diameter x 4 1/2" tall.

Old glass dome. 4" diameter x about 4" tall.

 Cloisonne dish. It has one of Grandpa's ID numbers - 77IN - 15. (Explanation on those numbers, which will show up from time to time; apparently in 1977 Grandpa and Grandma set out to document "everything" they had "of interest;" they gave each item on the list a number and a description. A day or two ago I found one of the notebooks with the notes but haven't had time to put them together. As I have more time, I will add those notes to these, for those item in their catalog.)

Tiny metal swan. I have never seen this before, but it appears to be old. 1 /34" long x 1 5/8" tall.

Stone egg with stand. The egg is 2 /34" x 1 3/4".

Shoe button hook. In the "old days," shoes were closed with rows of closely spaced buttons. They were hard to button by hand, hence the hook to help with the task. When you read of Raggedy Ann's and Andy's shoe button eyes, you will know that their eyes were made of buttons that had previously been used on shoes. Somwhere I have a bag of "real" shoe buttons that I plan to use on new Raggedys.

Kewpie doll (porcelain) from the early 1900s, missin her arms. 5 3/4" tall.

Mini wooden barrel. I have seen such barrels with a top, making them a bank, but don't know if that was the function of this one. 2 /34" in diameter x 4 1/2".

Three wooden spoons: the left spoon is labeled "Norway '86;" the right spoon is labeled "Sweden '86;" the center spoon (double spoon) has no label.

Red rosemaling spoon. I don't know the origin of this spoon, but assume the same Scandinavian trip as the two labeled above.  12 3/4" long.

Matroushka doll magnet. 2 3/8" long. Bought in Russia, 2005.

Grandma's scriptures; one large, old style Bible; one regular Quad.

Miscellaneous collection: lidded leather(?) box (2 3/4" W x 2 1/8" D x 1 3/8" H); pitcher (hand painted?) (sout to handle, 3" x 3 1/4" tall); souvenir stein (across handle, 2" x 1 7/8" tall); brass weight (1 1/8" in diameter x 2" tall).

Two small "jewelry" boxes. The round brown box had a small caned section. The box is 2" in diameter x 1 1/4" high. The floral heart box seems to be some sort of inlay work. At the widest part of the heart, it is 2" x 1 1/8" tall.

I didn't write down notes for this tiny stemmed glass. I believe that it is old and quite small.

Set of six goblets; they were wedding gifts for Grandma and Grandpa. Enlarge the picture so that you can see the beautiful cutting on them. 5 3/4" tall

There are five of these dessert dishes remaining (a friend of mine broke one of them); they match the goblets above and both sets have the most wonderful ring when you tap them. 3 3/8" in diameter x 4 1/4" tall.

Four pressed glass dessert dishes. (They are very sturdy, if you are thinking of using them with children.) 3 3/8" in diameter x 3 1/2" tall.

Glass dessert dishes -- two match and one is larger. The two are 3 1/8" in diameter x 3 1/4" tall; the single dish is 3" in diameter x 4 1/4" tall.

Glass dishes (the dessert dish is the same design as the red ones on an early entry). The bowl is 5 1/2" in diameter x 1 3/4" tall; the dessert dish is 4 3/8" in diameter x 2 3/4" tall.

Small, hand-painted plate by "E. Maloon 5-1911." So this was done by Great-grandma Libbey before she was married.

Miscellaneous vases. The two on the left (enlarge the picture to see the detail) are cut glass. They range in height from 6 1/4" to 8" tall.

Two glass flower vases -- one white and one pink. 4" in diameter x 5" tall.

Covered Carnival Glass dish. 6" in diameter x 7" tall (including lid).

Bottle with ground glass stopper. 8 1/4" tall.

Pressed glass bowl with feet. 6 3/4" in diameter x 2 1/2" tall.

Square "S" plate. Grandma said these had a special name and were of some value. ???? 8 1/2" square.

Four ironstone plates, not matching. Three of them are plain; the top one has a pattern around the rim. 8 - 8 1/2" diameter. Most likely quite old, either the Libbey or Smart families.

Pressed glass dish. 6 1/4" x 8" x 1 3/4" tall.

Mini brass spittoon. 2 3/4" diameter x 2 1/4" tall.

Brass bowl; belonged to EML (i.e. Great-grandma, Edna Mertelle Libbey). 5" in diameter x 1 3/4" tall.

Ceramic dish, mended, from Hebron, Israel, 1985. 4 1/2" in diameter x 1 1/4" tall.

Grandmother had a note on this tool, suggesting that it might have been used for hooking yarns in long past days. 9 1/2" long.

Large cut glass bowl. 12 1/4" in diameter x 3 1/4" tall.

Collection of glass candlesticks. (Enlarge the picture to see them better.) The tallest are 7 1/2"; the stars are 4 1/2" across.

Black glass bear. His head is the cover. There are pieces missing at his neck and his left paw. 3 3/4" tall.

Braided rug. 85" x 60".

Quilted hanging, "Sail On." Grandma did this in honor of the 350th Anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America.  27" x 20"

Quilted hanging. Grandma did this while living in Florida. I believe that it was to met a particular challenge and won a prize at the Stephen Foster home. I will try to get the photograph of the award together with this. The second picture is on the back corner of the hanging. Perhaps Linnette can tell us more about it. 37" square.

Quilted hanging; Christmas sampler quilt. Grandma said that it was to be a "wall hanging, quilt or tablecloth." 47" square

Aunt Joanne and I worked at putting this together so that you could see it in all of its beauty. It is a very intricate five tiered knick knack shelf, made by David Freeman Libbey, sometime in the 1800s. All of the pieces are there and it would just take a bit of patience to get them together correctly. They were hand made, so need to fit in just the right place. The bottom shelf is a quarter circle with a 17 radius; the top shelf has an 11 1/2" radius. The entire unit is 65" tall and lovely. Again, enlarge the picture to more fully appreciate it.

Round picture frame. The backing is covered with pink fabric. 11 1/2" in diameter.

Brass lamp, converted to electricity from oil. Meaurements????

Two "Paul Revere" style bowls. The one of the right is silver plate, so tarnished. 5" in diameter x 3" tall.

Wooden puzzle, made by Linnette(?). 8 1/2" x 5".

"Primitive" doll, made by Sharon. 11" tall.

Old Libbey clock, used to be workable. The cord is broken in a number of places, so would need replacing for safety sake. The Mathews have had it for the last twenty plus years. 10 3/4" W x 7 1/4" D x 14" H.

This appears to have been a glass inkwell, but is missing the top. 2 1/2" square x 2 1/4" tall.

Two old glass lamp shades; one is quite cracked; Grandpa's ID # 77IQ - 16B. 7 1/2" in diameter x 3 1/2" tall.

Eight glass dessert dishes (three shown). 4" diameter x 2 1/2" tall.

Six tiny salt cellars, etched or cut designs. (They used to put out salt at each place and one would take a pinch to "salt" your food to taste.) 1 1/2" in diameter x 7/8" tall.

Pressed glass serving dish with bail. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, Grandma would served the stuffed celery on this, usually without the bail. 6 1/2" L x 3 1/2" W x 2" H; with bail, 8" H.

Small ceramic dish. Appears quite new. 2 3/8" in diameter x 2" tall.

Pitcher, matches a creamer and sugar from an earlier post. At least as old as Great-grandma Libbey. 5 3/4" across handle x 4 3/4" tall.

An iron trivet; one complete iron and parts from two other irons. Very old. The large, complete iron is 6 1/4" long x 5 1/4" tall. The small iron (without a handle) is 3 5/8" long.

Round trivet. 6 7/8" in diameter.

Beaded purse, needs repair; quite old. About 8 1/2" long.

Tiny ceramic, glazed dish. 1 5/8" in diameter x 5/8" tall.

Pressed glass dish. 5 5/8" in diameter x 1 1/4" tall.

Hexagonal dish, quite small and heavy. 3" across x 1 1/2" tall.

Old chair. Painted black and stenciled, probably by Grandma.

Three pillows, 16" square.

Two crewel (blue corduroy backing) pillows, 15" square. Blue velvet pillow, 14" square. Round blue velvet pillow, 13 1/2" in diameter.

Two quilt block pillows; I assume that Grandma made them. 17" square.

Square "Watermelon" pillow, 12 1/2" square without ruffle, 18" with ruffle. Heart pillow, 16 1/2" across at widest point, with ruffle.

"A friend" cross-stitched pillow, with ruffle, 20" square. Floral pillow, with ruffle, 15" x 20".

Caned rocking chair. All caning is intact.

Caned seat chair. Caning is starting to sag.

Game - Trivial Pursuit.

Curling irons, used daily by Great-grandma Libbey. It used to fascinate me to watch her. Her hair was very thin and this gave it some body.  10" and 11" long..

Large Mexican ceramic vase. I have always believed that it belonged to Great-grandma Williams. About 8" in diameter x 10 1/4" tall.
